Easily expand your Synology DiskStation with 5 additional disk bays. The DX517 expansion unit supports both 2.5" and 3.5" SATA drives, so it offers a flexible solution for volume expansion on the fly, and it can also be used as a local backup destination.

Volume expansion during operation
The additional disks provided by the DX517 unit can also be managed from the DiskStation Manager system running on the connected NAS device, and are available practically immediately after installation. The on-the-fly volume expansion process has no impact on host storage and services.

Hot swappable drive tray design
Thanks to the DX517's hot-swappable drive tray design, hard drives can be installed or replaced without shutting down the system. The screwless disc tray reduces the time required to set up the system.

Dedicated local backup solution
Synology DX517 can also be used as a dedicated local backup solution for Synology DiskStation devices. Created as a standalone volume, the DX517 provides a great backup solution for local hard drives in the event of a system failure.
