Expansion of storage capacity
The Synology RX418 expansion unit offers a simple solution for those cases when the Synology 1U RackStation product is running out of space: it can be used to add 4 3.5"/2.5" SATA drives to the system. In addition, Synology RX418 can be used as a dedicated local backup target for Synology 1U RackStation devices, so it can provide comprehensive data protection.

Simply connect Synology RX418 to your desired Synology RackStation and you're good to go. The drives installed in the connected Synology RX418 behave as if they were in the Synology NAS device itself and can be managed directly from the Synology DiskStation Manager (DSM), without the need to install additional software.

The award-winning Synology DSM provides an intuitive user interface that is extremely easy to use. In the DSM system, you can also set the hard drives to hibernate automatically if the system detects inactivity for a specified period of time. This ensures energy-saving operation and also increases the lifetime of the installed drives.
