4-disk USB 3.0 RAID expansion unit

The TR-004 USB 3.0 RAID expansion unit allows you to expand the capacity of your QNAP NAS and PC. The TR-004 can also be used as a DAS (Direct-Attached Storage) device, which allows the content stored on it to be accessed directly via USB. The TR-004 offers four 3.5-inch SATA drive bays with multiple RAID configuration options and USB 3.0 Type C connectivity to provide a highly reliable and secure storage capacity expansion solution.

The TR-004 is an ideal storage expansion solution for PCs, especially for laptops in which we cannot install larger capacity ones. With four 3.5-inch SATA drive bays and a RAID configuration, the TR-004 supports you to store a large number of files and data and protect against potential drive failure.

It supports different RAID levels
TR-004 supports many RAID configurations. Depending on your needs, you can switch between hardware or software-controlled RAID mode. Set the DIP switches to the ideal RAID mode: Custom, JBOD, RAID 0, RAID 1/10 or RAID 5. You can also set the RAID configuration from the QNAP NAS or the QNAP External RAID Manager utility.

Flexible storage configuration and management
Compared to other RAID storage units, TR-004 provides software controlled configurations for better and more flexible management. Users can configure RAID and monitor disk status using Storage & Snapshots Manager on QNAP NAS or QNAP External RAID Manager utility.

Usage example 1: Expand the capacity of the NAS
The TR-004 offers users an alternative way to expand the storage capacity of their NAS. Connect the TR-004 to the NAS and use the Storage & Snapshots Manager to easily configure and manage storage expansion. The TR-004 supports many QNAP NAS storage and file management functions, allowing you to create a storage pool, search for files with Qsirch, and organize files with Qfiling.

Use the TR-004 as an alternative to traditional NAS expansion units
As an external hardware RAID device, the TR-004 operates independently and does not require additional NAS system resources. In comparison, compared to the UX-500P expansion unit, the TR-004 provides faster read and write performance and uses less NAS system resources.

Example of use 2: External data storage for NAS
Instead of using the TR-004 as an expansion unit for QNAP NAS, it can also be used as a separate storage unit to back up or move data. It also allows us to physically migrate huge data that would require significant network bandwidth. When connected to the NAS, the status and operation of the TR-004 can be monitored using the NAS Storage & Snapshots Manager.

Example of use 3: Expand your computer's storage space
With the TR-004, we can add storage space to our computer. The hardware RAID mode can be configured with the DIP switch or controlled with the QNAP External RAID Manager utility. You can also check the operation and status of the TR-004 with the QNAP External RAID Manager utility.
