Robert Yugovich - Olja

The novel is not another piece of crime fiction literature, it is not just the story of the rise of a luxury whore, it is an authentic presentation of the world of dirty money and shallow glamour, the busy nightlife of Amsterdam: Yugovich's Oljája is a cry for help for the protection of women, perhaps it is no coincidence that according to some of its admirers is one of the most powerful feminist works of international contemporary literature, in which the opaque wilderness of the network spanning the whole of Europe is revealed to us as a symbol of society. Olja's career history stretches from Chisinau in Moldova to Amsterdam in the Netherlands, meanwhile the Russian, Swiss and German locations are not only used to show the international network, but also symbols of the modern Western society that oppresses and enslaves women, which is demonstrated by the diversity and dimensionality of the heroine's character. also proves. The unknown woman who was beaten half to death, the lovely bar girl, the luxury prostitute and the cocaine addict, then the loyal wife who stands up for her husband and the woman who wants to save her sister are all Olja, in whose character the author condensed the stories and emotions of many women into one, the character of Yugovich's novel is therefore oppressed, humiliated and crying out for help: WOMAN! Olja is not an easy read, on the contrary, it is a scandalous and sometimes shocking novel, a reality-based and chillingly authentic vision of women who live their lives without the slightest hope of liberation and yet are much stronger than the men who try to rule over them. Yugovich expresses a clear message: a woman can be humiliated, her soul and body can be trampled in the mud, but she cannot be defeated!
