The main goal of Hungarian ethnographic research in the last decade was to shed more light on the prehistory of Hungarians. Undoubtedly, the most interesting part of this endeavor is the one that wants to tear off the veil of obscurity from the ancient world of faith of Hungarians. But this task is as interesting as it is difficult. It is clear that this task can only be solved by the comparative method, and therefore we must collect the Hungarian material in which we see the remnants of our ancient religious life, and after processing it, we must compare it with the religious life of those peoples, or the remaining fragments of their ancient religious life, which are linguistically and historically related to us . János Jankó (1868-1902) was an outstanding ethnographer and traveler of his time. His present study was published in 1900 in the columns of the journal Ethnographia.
