Product description
The climate crisis and energy crisis unfolding today have made it clear that the development of sustainable social modes of operation is currently the biggest challenge facing humanity. All social systems have an important role in this transformation process. But how can the school system help the transformation of societies, whose primary task is not to transform society, but rather to pass on the social norms and knowledge developed in the past to future generations? This volume basically seeks the answer to this question based on the author's two decades of research and development experience in the field of environmental education and sustainability pedagogy. The main message of the book is that schools can be the promoters of the necessary social changes if they are able to show an example of striving towards sustainability at the whole institution level, in all areas of their operation, and if students are treated as equals and can join the social dialogue about sustainability. If this is successful, the schools themselves will become more sustainable institutions in the present and contribute to the formation of a more sustainable society in the future.
