Product description
The young Szokolay began his musical studies in 1947 at the legendary Békés-Tarhos Singing School. In his letters, he gave a detailed account of the development of his life to his family living in Orosháza. The reader can get to know the everyday life of a family and school struggling with difficulties in the post-war years from this cheerful, instructive, heartfelt reading, in Szokolay's direct style. The student from Tarhos composed the first opuses after a few weeks of piano lessons. The Zene-Bona series, which is included on the CD, is a collection of the composer's piano works from his youth. The small masterpieces with a playful tone are performed by Boros Misi. The sheet music of the Zene-Bona series can be purchased as a separate publication. The composer's letters with a personal tone, just like his first works, reveal the psyche of a brilliant child. By reading the letters, we can follow Sándor Szokolay's journey to becoming a composer from the beginning of his music studies to his graduation. Eighty-five letters were written during the high school years. Only ten letters from the music academy days have survived. The publication of the composer's youthful letters is a curiosity in itself. However, his music reveals the most about Szokolay's special world. It was not by chance that the publisher chose the like-minded, extraordinarily talented young man, Boros Misire, to perform the works. Sándor Szokolay began his musical studies relatively late, at the age of sixteen. He developed amazingly quickly under the influence of the inspiring environment and after three years of study he was admitted to the Academy of Music, where he was welcomed with open arms. His career went up very quickly, he won prizes at several international composer competitions. In his last letter, he reports on his success at the World Youth Meeting in Moscow in 1957, where he won first prize among four hundred participants. The book could even be a fairy tale story, when the youngest member of the family does not really find his place. In the end, he leaves home to try his luck, and after many trials, he finds himself and his life reaches its goal!
