The SMSL AL400 is a compact desktop all-in-one amplifier built around a Class D TPA3255 chip, rated at 2 x 160 W. It combines amplifier and DAC in one unit, making it suitable for active speakers or passive bookshelf speakers on a desk or in a living room. The manufacturer describes its sound as clean and dynamic with low distortion.

Connectivity includes HDMI with eARC, an optical input and a USB port. Wireless streaming over Bluetooth supports the MQA, LDAC and aptX-HD codecs. The built-in CS43131 DAC handles digital signals up to 32 bit/768 kHz, along with DSD256 and MQA decoding. A three-band tone control and adjustable phase and bass settings let you tailor the sound, and an integrated MM/MC phono preamplifier accommodates turntables.

The aluminium chassis and gold-plated connectors give it a premium finish, and the remote control and user-friendly menu keep operation simple.
