Product description
The volume Hong Kong film fills an old gap when it analyzes the cinematography of the far-eastern city-state, which is also popular in Hungary, based on the results of contemporary film studies. The book includes Bruce Lee's signature kung-fu film, King Hu's costumed martial arts film, wuxia, John Woo's action film elevated to art, as well as ghost stories, fantasies and comedies with an aesthetically deepened, cultural and its analysis based on in-depth knowledge of the social environment.
The volume places the most internationally successful era of Hong Kong film, the period from the 1970s to the mid-1990s, in a historical and cultural context and tries to explain why the tiny British colony managed to become one of the most productive and successful film production locations in the world. Relying on the best of international literature, it presents genres, stars and filmmakers that are also known and popular in Hungary. It also helps to understand from the inside the nature and uniqueness of the autonomous Hong Kong film culture, which is now disappearing, through the question of the cinematic representation of sexual minorities and the specific identity formulas developed in the city-state.
