Can we be true to ourselves without betraying those we love?
Carlo, who teaches creative writing, and Margherita, who works as a real estate agent, seem like a perfect couple at first glance: they are successful, they love and complement each other. Behind their love, however, restlessness, jealousy and unspoken feelings lurk: Carlo is attracted to one of his students, and Margherita yearns for her physiotherapist.
For a couple struggling in the trap of marriage and desires, the support is the birth of their child. A few years later, however, the past resurfaces and they have to reckon with themselves: is their own feelings or loyalty to the other more important?
The acclaimed contemporary Italian writer Marco Missiroli's Strega Award-winning novel has already been published in more than ten countries, and Netflix made a highly successful miniseries out of it.
