Product description
We know very little about voodoo, which is both religion and magic. The main deity of the religion is the goddess Damballa, who is depicted as a snake, but countless minor deities also appear in its mythology. For example, Baron Semedi is the deity and guardian of cemeteries, he keeps the dead calm, he is propitiated with various sacrifices: goat, hen, alcohol and money. In the voodoo religion, the help of the gods and spirits can be requested through the priests who direct the ritual, who provide the seeker with protection, healing, or reveal the future. Through the ceremonies, believers can learn the cause of their misfortune and how they can neutralize it. The most frightening figures in voodoo are zombies, the soulless dead who are brought back to life with the help of magic. The defining tools of voodoo are dolls (wanga), which can be made of various materials, be it wax or breadcrumbs, but they can also be made of wood and rags. Everywhere in Haiti there are signs, drawings, inscriptions, names, shapes that have meaning in voodoo. But in many places we come across simple objects that have been blessed or endowed with power, the meaning of which only the initiated know.
