Product description
The Anthropocene: a new era of earth history, named after man. The presence of man on our planet has become decisive in recent millennia, and in the last few hundred years, especially since the industrial revolution, it has become a decisively influencing factor, which has a serious impact on the environment and the Earth's systems. The ecological crisis, the climate disaster, the reality of environmental pollution, which is a direct consequence of agriculture, industrialization and the population explosion, which is eating up more and more extensive areas, can no longer be a subject of debate these days. At the same time, a more precise understanding of the processes requires an in-depth review and interpretation of the phenomenon and concept of the Anthropocene, as well as a rethinking of the geological time scale. Márk Horváth's book aims to present the place of the Anthropocene in science, the exchanges of ideas about it, and the debates surrounding it. In the first part of the volume, by introducing the so-called "narrow" and "broad" concepts of the Anthropocene, he gives a sense of the scientific environment and discourse that was organized around the Anthropocene, including competing ways of thinking, trends and the different perspectives represented by the associated concepts. In the second and third parts, it illustrates the philosophical and aesthetic challenges of the Anthropocene, all the philosophical and artistic trends and tendencies - including posthumanism, speculative realism or even "dark ecology" - which are the human representatives of the sciences are also encouraged to interpret the phenomenon. The Anthropocene is our present and our future. It seems more important than anything else to better understand this present and future.
