Product description
The author was driven by the desire to share his reading experiences, to compile a kind of reading book for the lay reader interested in history. The time and space span of his book extends from the 1920s to the beginning of the 2000s, from Bayreuth, the Mecca of Wagner fans, to Baghdad, devastated by the war. He organized his writings into five large thematic units, in such a way that within the chapters the writings build on each other and reflect on each other. András Gervai is most excited by the relationship between the individual and power, the story of the suffering of the little man, and his possibilities for action, so he did not want to follow and understand the great historical processes, but wanted to show the everyday life of dictatorships, the impact and consequences of murderous ideologies, the perpetrators, accomplices, history and psychology of victims. He preferred opus that shed light on the events from a personal point of view, focusing on the individual's life, career, trials, behavior, and the small, characteristic, interesting details of the events.
