In András Gerevich's latest poems, the silence of hot summer nights spent lying in the grass can be broken at any time by the ominous barking of stray dogs, the distant roar of a Balaton disco, or the blood-curdling roar of a nearby car accident. The gloomy, melancholic mood of the poems, sometimes fueled by unbridled desire and boundless longing, flows into us slowly, drop by drop, like a saline solution dripping from an infusion bag, and then leaves through our pores as sweat. We feel the coolness of the Breathing Exercises on the back of our necks with goosebumps, and we inhale it like the icy breath of an air conditioner. And once the poems have become involved in our circulation, they remain with us in every nerve fiber, in every oxygen molecule of our blood, in flesh and blood. - Péter Závada
