In 1989, there was no Facebook, no Instagram. Neither YouTube nor Google. Telephones were only wired, and TVs were the size of today's ovens. And there were black and white among them. American films reached Hungarian cinemas with a delay of months or years, and there were only two channels on TV.
And then, that year, the Russians were still here, many of the children were still small drummers, and the older ones were pioneers. That year, there was only one party in the Parliament in Hungary, and everyone knew that it was not worth voting for. Nothing ever changes anyway.
THEN EVERYTHING CHANGED.
Now, in 2019, on the thirtieth anniversary of the regime change, we have asked some authors who were children or teenagers in the eighties and nineties and have their own personal experience from this period, to tell us about what 1989 was like for them.
Authors of the volume: Vera Bendl, Péter Gerőcs, Csilla Gévai, Hanna Győri, Orsolya Karafiáth, Ágnes Judit Kiss, Noémi Kiss, Kornél Laboda, János Lackfi, Péter Magyari, Réka Mán-Várhegyi, Ágnes Mészöly, Eszter T. Molnár, Borbála Szabó and István Vörös.
