Eliphas Lévi - A ragyogás könyve

The union of body and soul is the marriage of light and shadow. The stars breathe out their bright souls and attract their brightness to each other. The soul of the earth, a prisoner of the inescapable laws of gravity, breaks free through separation, breaks through sacrificial instincts, and reaches human reason. The imprisoned part of this soul is silent, but preserves the secrets of nature in writing, the free part cannot read this ominous writing without immediately losing its freedom. Man does not get from silent vegetative contemplation to free living thought unless he changes his senses and his environment. From this comes the forgetfulness that accompanies the uncertain memories of birth and even more terrible premonitions, which always resemble the visions of our delusions and dreams.
