István Györffy of Sziget and Nádudvar (Karcag, February 11, 1884 – Budapest, October 3, 1939) is an ethnographer, university professor, and corresponding member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. He completed his university studies in Cluj and Budapest. From 1909, he was an intern at the Hungarian National Museum. In 1910, he obtained a Doctor of Humanities degree at the University of Cluj. In 1917 he collected among the Moldavian Csangos, and in 1918 he participated in Lénard's expedition to Asia Minor, which was interrupted. This year he was appointed director of the museum. University professor from 1926. Private teacher from 1929. In 1932, he was elected a corresponding member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. From 1934, he was the first public professor of ethnography at the University of Budapest. From 1938, he became the head of the Center for Landscape and Folk Research. In this volume, he presents the form-rich, colorful world and art of nagykun filter embroidery.
