YRSA Sigurdardóttir - A baba

Dísa and her eleven-year-old daughter go fishing with an acquaintance on his boat, but instead of a fish, only a broken toy doll gets caught in the net. After spending years in the ocean, the baby presents a terrible sight, and Dísa at first wants to throw it back, but then gives in to her daughter's pleas and is kept. But this small act of kindness sets off a series of fateful events.
Years later, we find detective Huldar in a place where he didn't want to go: he is searching for human remains on a boat in the choppy sea. However, identifying the bones found is more difficult than expected, and Huldar will also need the experience of psychologist Freyja.
As the mystery surrounding the body grows, Huldar becomes embroiled in the murder of a homeless drug addict, and Freyja is investigated after alleged child molestation in a foster home. It soon becomes clear that the cases are connected by a single missing and vulnerable witness: the little girl who wanted that doll so much at the time.
