Yishai Sarid - Az emlékezés szörnye

The monster of memory is one long, passionate monologue - the monologue of a young Israeli historian who longs for a quiet life, but ends up in Poland as a tour guide for reasons of livelihood, where he guides groups from Israel through death camps. After constantly living with horrors and struggling with the most painful questions, he falls out of his role more and more: he says embarrassing things to the young people and behaves strangely, until finally, during a visit by a German film director, he can't stand it any longer and causes a scandal. Sarid's novel is a stirring read that does not shy away from the most painful questions, while examining what memory teaches us - not only about the past, but also about the nature of strength and weakness, civilization and violence, goodness and revenge.
