Product description
Ernst Hanfstaengl, born to a German father and an American mother in Munich in 1887, grew up in Germany in the best possible financial conditions, then moved to America and graduated from Harvard. In 1922, the well-educated man who lives in the world, who plays the piano very well, and is known to everyone as Putzi, returns to his native country and becomes his admirer, then close friend, and direct confidant for a long time to Adolf Hitler, in whom he sees the future not only of Germany, but of the whole world. After Hitler came to power, he was given serious tasks, which he fulfilled with great enthusiasm and deep faith. He works determinedly to establish a solid relationship between the Western powers, primarily the United Kingdom and America, and Nazi Germany. For a while, he quickly moves up the ranks, but unexpected and dramatic turns occur in his life, he is in danger, he is disappointed in his friends, his commitment becomes uncertain, his belief in evil ideals - the unanswered question remains whether it is due to unfortunate circumstances or honest realization - hesitates, and Putzi finally faces his former self.
Thomas Snégaroff's exciting book also gives a very accurate picture of the important events of the time, but above all it focuses on Putzi's personal fate, researches the motives of his actions and decisions, and tries to present the undeniably interesting and highly controversial figure as nuanced as possible, sometimes seen as a clown, sometimes as a madman, sometimes as a compromising, opportunist. he considered Ernst Hanfstaengl to be a figure.
Putzi later "...proved that he did everything to prevent Hitler from becoming Hitler..."
