Product description
This volume presents the lectures of two conferences organized on the 120th anniversary of the birth and the 50th death of János Kodolányi in 2019.
The collection of papers aims to transcend the horizon of interpretation of the writer's works created in the second half of the 20th century and since then. According to this, János Kodolányi is a naturalist-realist narrator, a depict of the difficult living conditions of the peasantry, who draws attention to the socio-cultural problems and anomalies of his time. A publicist who does not spare the sensitivity of others while seeking warfare. Analyzes made in the last twenty years, as well as previously written but uncensored works that have only recently come to light and their interpretations, have shown that Kodolányi is much more than what the picture enclosing him suggests. On the one hand, he also created a masterpiece in the genre of the social novel (Happy Times of Peace on the Village Life of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy at the turn of the century), on the other hand, always and his short stories and novels. With this endeavor that defined his entire oeuvre, he went so far as to recreate the ancient narratives of mankind, the sacred stories, the myths, in his large-scale mesopotamian and biblical novels. His letters from 1947-56 provide evidence that János Kodolányi moved in a lively intellectual environment between the two world wars, then as an active shaper of literary life as a major member of the Writers' Economic Association and then co-chair until his ban in 1944. both during World War II and during the decades of socialism.
