A few weeks before Christmas, the Swedish justice minister leaves the parliament through the back exit after a heated debate, but never arrives at the car waiting for him. As if the earth had swallowed him. Although the case is not officially under their jurisdiction, Fabian Risk is assigned by his superior to conduct an investigation in secret. Fabian and his colleague Malin's suspicions turn to a notorious Swedish serial killer.
Meanwhile, the wife of a popular TV personality is found dead in Copenhagen. Dunja Hougaard, who leads the investigation, believes that a well-known Danish serial killer is behind the case, but the clues lead straight to Sweden.
Fabian and Dunja unknowingly cross each other's paths as they become more and more entangled in the investigation of a worldwide conspiracy and realize that the situation is much worse than they could have dreamed.
