The size and weight of the lens and the compact α7 series bodies are an excellent match, resulting in exceptional overall portability and handling.

Lifelike detail, texture and gradation

The combination of an upgraded double Gaussian optical configuration and an aspherical lens element minimizes spherical aberration and coma (comet error) for sharp, superior image quality across all frames. The double Gauss design also reduces image field deflection and distortion.

Bokeh effect with a large aperture prime lens

The large maximum aperture of F1.8 and the seven-blade circular aperture combine to create a beautiful background bokeh effect and help highlight subjects. A sharply focused object placed in front of a slightly defocused background is an essential technique for creating images with a deep, dimensional effect.

Shooting at night/low light

The large F1.8 maximum aperture is also an advantage for night shots or poorly lit indoor environments. When used on an α-series camera body combined with built-in image stabilization, even in low light, you get clear handheld images in the dark without the need to use excessively high ISO sensitivities.

DC motor focus

The new DC motor drive system is carefully designed and developed to enable optimal focusing precision, speed and quiet operation. This system provides the same consistent style for autofocus and manual focus control. Note: The sound of the focus motor may also be recorded during video recording.
