The Sony ECM-W3 is a two-channel wireless microphone system with two transmitters and one receiver. The audio is processed and transmitted digitally, allowing two speakers to be recorded at the same time with clear, low-noise sound. The microphone capsules offer an excellent signal-to-noise ratio.

The system uses Bluetooth 5.3 (BLE) with the LC3plus codec and maintains a reliable connection over a range of up to 150 metres with low latency. The receiver can be attached to a Sony camera with an MI (multi-interface) shoe, or connected via USB to a smartphone or PC.

As a safeguard, two audio tracks are recorded simultaneously: one at normal level and one 20 dB quieter, helping to prevent clipping. The dust- and moisture-resistant design makes it suitable for outdoor use as well. With the supplied charging case, the transmitters can run continuously for up to 6 hours.
