Newly developed 33.0 megapixel back-illuminated CMOS image sensor
The Full Frame Exmor R™ CMOS sensor provides unparalleled speed and excellent image quality. Thanks to the copper cabling, the transmission speed has increased and the AD conversion has become even faster, while the speed of the sensor enables 10-bit 4:2:2 4K recording at up to 60p. The sensor's color reproduction has been further improved to produce low noise at all sensitivities and 15 stops of dynamic range for stills, while AF accuracy and focus stability have further improved.
BIONZ XR™ image processor for up to 8x processing speed
The BIONZ XR engine, which is used by the top model α1 and α7S III, provides up to 8 times higher processing speed. The engine consists of real-time autofocus data processing, image recognition and image quality modification to minimize processing latency for even more advanced video and still image processing performance. User interface, network and file management processing is distributed to maintain fast response time regardless of real-time load.
Beautifully rendered images with low noise
The visible benefits of the new powerful 33.0 megapixel sensor and image processing engine mean more than just numbers. These are thanks to the soft, natural human skin textures, the amazing detail of landscapes and skylines, and the better than ever color reproduction, in which the subjective resolution is even higher thanks to improved algorithms. The standard ISO 100-51200 can be expanded to ISO 50-204800 for photos and 100-102400 for video, with low noise throughout the range.
Even smoother gradation rendering from 10-bit HEIF footage
The α7 IV also supports HEIF (High Efficiency Image File) still image encoding in addition to traditional RAW and JPEG. The smooth 10-bit gradation enables even more realistic reproduction of the sky and portrait subjects, and the 10-bit depth reduces image quality degradation during editing. HEIF photos taken in HLG mode can be played back on any compatible BRAVIA 4K TV with an HDMI connection, resulting in an exceptionally wide dynamic range.
4K 60p recording, 4:2:2 10-bit recording
The α7 IV offers an impressive array of video recording capabilities. The full pixel readout without dropping pixels enables 4K 60p recording, and when making 4K videos at 30p, Full Frame 7K oversampling results in a high-resolution, detailed 4K image. 10-bit 4:2:2 video can be recorded to internal storage, offering fuller, more natural transitions and greater editing freedom. The XAVC HS™ file format offers roughly twice the encoding capacity of MPEG-4 AVC/H.264.

Beautiful color reproduction made easy with S-Cinetone™
The α7 IV has S-Cinetone support, based on experience gained during the development of the VENICE CineAlta camera. Thanks to this design, the beautiful skin tones that the FX9, FX6 and FX3 are widely known for. It provides a completely natural midtone, which is why the skin always looks healthy, and also gives soft colors and breathtaking highlights. Since all of this is located inside the camera, you will be able to effortlessly create an expressive visual world on your video recordings without post-production.
S-Log according to the color accuracy of professional video equipment
The α7 IV offers S-Log2 and S-Log3 gamma curves, with the latter offering up to 15 steps of adjustable dynamic range. Thanks to the S-Gamut3 and S-Gamut3.Cine color gamut settings, the α7 IV's footage can easily be mistaken for that of VENICE series digital cinema cameras such as the FX6 and FX3. For S-Log shooting, the original sensitivity is ISO 800, which can be reduced up to two stops below the standard range (ISO 200-640) for extra low noise.
