The Sonoff DW2 WIFI is an improved version of the previous Sonoff DW1 RF door/window opening sensor, which uses a WiFi connection instead of RF to transmit alarms, so it does not require a smart device with an RF receiver or a Sonoff RF Bridge gateway to operate it.

Thanks to the two-way WiFi connection, the Sonoff DW2 WiFi can show the current open / closed status in the eWeLink app, (while the SmartWise DW2 and Sonoff DW1 RF sensors can only sound an alarm and control other devices based on the detected opening / closing based on, but they cannot show the current status).

The sensor can also send an alarm about opening and closing. A separate alarm and separate events and controls can be connected to both events in the eWeLink app. The sensor consists of two parts: one element is placed on the door or window, the other part is placed on the frame, and the device gives an alarm when the magnetic connection between the two parts is broken and when the connection is restored.

Neither wiring nor a central gateway is necessary for its use, as it is connected directly to the WiFi router. Its energy supply is provided by 2 AAA type pencil batteries (which are not part of the product).

An alarm can also be requested for the iOS/Android phone about opening and closing via the eWeLink app, i.e. it can also be used as a very simple alarm. If an alarm is set on the phone, even if the device is shared with eWeLink, it will not be transferred to another eWeLink shared account and to another phone, only the owner will receive a phone notification.

In the case of controlling other Sonoff devices, the switching on of other smart devices (light switches, switching relays, smart sockets) can be controlled via the smart control (Scene) function of the eWeLink app with the signal given by the detected opening or closing.

When used together with an eWeLink-compatible indoor Sonoff or outdoor SmartWise camera, the camera image can be displayed on the sensor screen, so movement can also be checked on the live image.
