Solymossy Sándor - Ancient fejfaformák népünknél
Product description
The most striking distinguishing features of our cemeteries are the prominent head trees attached to the head of the grave mounds. In larger places, especially more recently, obelisks polished from marble, stone slabs with semicircular tops and crypt buildings embellished with forged lamp holders have somewhat changed the normal image of cemeteries, almost depriving them of their original idyllic character. But in villages, there are two more simple and general types of head trees. You can already recognize from afar in the cemeteries which part of them the Catholic and Protestant dead were buried in. Among them, the lower cross-shaped headboard with a roof-shaped narrow pipe guard above, and this one's rod-shaped headboard carved with numerals is the conspicuous distinguishing feature. Both are old traditional heritage.
