The SMSL SU-2 is a compact desktop D/A converter that turns digital signals from AES/EBU, optical and coaxial inputs into a clean analogue audio signal. Its balanced XLR and RCA outputs allow direct connection to active speakers, a preamplifier or an integrated amplifier.

An ESS ES9039Q2M DAC chip and four OPA1612A operational amplifiers deliver low-noise, accurate signal transfer. The unit accepts PCM up to 192 kHz and DSD64 in DoP mode, and the balanced output provides a level of 4.7 Vrms.

A clear status indicator shows the active input, signal detection, sampling frequency and the operation of the channels. The slim aluminium housing, gold-plated connectors and power consumption below 2.3 W make the SU-2 a neat, purpose-built desktop unit.
