Róbert Smid's book Paper Machines of Sigmund Freud and Jacques Lacan is a pioneering enterprise in Hungary, in a double sense. This is the first monograph in Hungarian about the life work of the French psychoanalyst Jacques Lacan, who put the spiritual legacy of Sigmund Freud on a new foundation, and had a great impact on many scientific fields, including media theory. . His main question: what follows from thinking of the most intimate and mysterious part of the human mind, the unconscious, as a machine? Róbert Smid's book is an extremely in-depth work, written with great knowledge, which utilizes philosophical, literary studies, linguistics, psychoanalytical, computer technology, technical-technological and mathematical knowledge, and which, together with the perspective system of media theory characterized by the name of the German Friedrich Kittler, uses its characteristic language with its own original questions and together with his answers, he broadcasts it to the domestic environment.
