Product description
Overlock program
These stitches are meant to be able to sew and clear the edge of our material during sewing, even if we don't have an overlock machine at home. It should be noted here that these stitches are not exactly like what a real overlock machine does. They do not perfectly replace four-thread overlock sewing, but they can be a solution at hobby level.
The main feature of four-thread overlock machines compared to overlock seams made with sewing machines is that they do not stretch our material and the seam remains much more flexible.
Since we are talking about a lateral movement of the needle, our material can be pulled together by the machine, so it is worth using a special (overlock) sewing foot. In addition to having a small tab (chain tongue) on which the machine sews the stitches (thus eliminating shrinkage), it also has a wind guide, which ensures that we are guaranteed to sew to the edge of the material and that our seam is of uniform width.
Four-step buttonhole
Sewing machines make buttonholes in four or one steps. The ones that can be made in four steps are made by lower-end mechanical machines. The point is that after precise markings (pin, chalk, etc.) we can sew identical buttonholes in four simple steps, since we have to switch programs (pages) between the individual pages. Each page is created with a separate "program". With the help of a buttonhole carriage (included with most sewing machines, available in our webshop) the buttonholes will be more accurate. The one-step buttonhole is much simpler, more comfortable and the size of the buttonhole compared to the button will be more accurate. You will find a detailed description of this in our other post.
One-step buttonhole
With this function, compared to four-step buttonhole sewing, we have an easier time, since we can make perfectly identical buttonholes, and in one step, which means that you don't have to change the program switch during the operation. Here, the given button can be inserted into the back of the buttonhole carriage, the sewing machine detects its size and sews the sizeable buttonhole in one operation. So there is no need to switch between sides of the buttonhole and no marking is required. The machine will always make the same size holes for the button.
Decorative patterns
Nowadays, we can choose from countless sewing machines and if we observe the general characteristics of the products, the number of decorative patterns is always indicated. Even the simplest mechanical machines are capable of making a few patterns, and as we move towards more serious machines, we can come across more and more such patterns. There are machines that have hundreds of decorative stitches. It should be noted, however, that we are still talking about sewing here, which we sew with a normal zigzag foot and decorative stitches have nothing to do with machine embroidery.
decorative patterns
These patterns can be categorized as follows.
Satin patterns: Filled, thicker stitch patterns, made with satin stitch. Even cheaper category mechanical machines know this.
Cross-stitch designs: Motifs drawn with x's, similar to hand cross-stitch embroidery.
Stitch length adjustment
Different sewing processes usually require different stitches and stitch parameters. The most important of these is the length of the stitches. Unfortunately, this cannot be set on some simpler machines. However, most of the machines already have it. Within this, in two ways.
The gradually adjustable stitch length: In this case, you can choose from the factory preset fixed stitch lengths (2-3 types).
Stepless: Here, we can continuously reduce or increase the length of our stitches with a rotary button or even on a touch screen, even while sewing.
