The Sennheiser HD 490 PRO is an open-back studio headphone built for mixing, mastering and critical music listening. Its open design creates a wide, spacious soundstage and precise placement of individual sound sources, making it easier to judge details in a mix. The frequency response is designed for neutral, uncoloured playback, and a dedicated low-frequency module delivers a controlled, clearly defined bass range.

The ear pads are ergonomically shaped to avoid pressure points, and at 300 g the headphone stays comfortable during long sessions. Two sets of ear pads, one for mixing and one for mastering, help reduce listening fatigue and support more accurate judgement of frequencies. The cable is detachable and can be connected to either earcup.
