A player calls out "LIGRETTO" to start the game. Whoever has card 1 quickly places it in the middle. All players simultaneously try to play cards from their pile or hand. You can choose the cards to be played from the Ligretto pile, the rows, or your hand. If a player does not have a "1" card in the Ligretto pile and rows, they may find more in their hand. To find it, quickly count 3 cards face up, so that only the top card is visible! Still not 1? Count three cards again, check the top one! As soon as a "1" appears (from which pile, to which player), it must be thrown into the center (even if a "1" has already been played). Each player then tries to 'cover' this '1' (or any other single thrown in the middle) with the next number in the row of the same suit - and so the value of the card played continues to increase until it reaches 10 up the series.
