The work takes you into the world of romanticism, the last era of global cultural history. It provides an authentic chronological picture of the diverse intellectual and artistic life of mid-nineteenth-century Paris. The old Montmartre also appears, where the artists are slowly moving away, and their place is being taken over by myths about them. The career of the young poet Louise Colet unfolds in this Parisian environment, where she meets Gustave Flaubert, the then unknown young writer. Louise is already a famous poet and one of the most beautiful ladies in Paris.
Flaubert, who in the meantime became a significant and then world-famous writer, is now literary history, while our knowledge of the poetess is sparse, we know little about this strange artist. We can form an image of him mainly based on Flaubert's letters to him. The judgment of Colet during his life and after his death is controversial, it was probably biased in favor of the man. Those whom Colet entrusted with the three-volume memoir about the writer and their love story probably didn't care much for Louise Colet's cultural legacy. In the absence of mostly destroyed facts, the novel uses imagination to bring the poet to life in the most authentic way.
