The Motorola/Symbol LS1203 handheld barcode reader is the successor to the popular LS1908 "Cobra". 100 scan/sec reading speed, 25.4 cm max. its reading distance makes it suitable for retail, office and healthcare applications. The goal of Motorola/Symbol was to develop a hand-held reader with which it can serve low-traffic commercial units without compromise, since despite its favorable price, it represents a high technical standard. Its impact-resistant plastic ABS housing is designed to be comfortable to hold and withstand being dropped onto a hard floor from a height of up to 1.5 m without damage. The reader recognizes all one-dimensional barcodes, and after programming, the settings are stored in the Flash memory. The program operating the reader, the "firmware", is located in the same place, which can be updated as needed, so that the knowledge of the reader can be reprogrammed when a new code type is introduced. Its special feature is that it can be switched to a so-called "Auto-Scan" mode, when it continuously scans without pressing the button to start reading, thereby making the work of users more convenient and faster. The user is assisted by the sound and light signal emitted by the reader, as well as the two-color LED located at the top of the reader.
