Mészöly Miklós - Párbeszédkísérlet - A kérdező: Szigeti László

The Párbeszédpészélet is a series of rich conversations covering many topics, which László Szigeti recorded with Miklós Mészöly between 1994 and 1996 in 15-18 sessions, mostly in Kisoroszi, Budapest, in the apartment on Városmajor utca and Guyon Richárd utca, as well as in Dunaszerdahely. The volume contains a significant part of the recorded conversations in edited form and authorized by Mészöly. The book was edited by Beáta Thomka, who was present at most of the discussions. [...] The continuation of the work was prevented by Mészöly's illness, in 1996 the first signs of his deteriorating condition appeared. In other words, Szigeti managed to question Mészöly practically at the last moment.
When the first edition of the book was published in 1999, shortly before the death of Miklós Mészöly, despite its versatility, it was sensational primarily because of the publication of the Mészöly portrait and biography. "It is Szigeti's eternal merit that the writer, who shies away from self-discovery, opens up to the influence of his questions. And the fact that [Mészöly] stood on the ropes at all, that he was willing to concentrate on forgotten, erased, difficult-to-reconstruct events and personal experiences, and to assume a touching, confessional attitude at times, is the sincere acceptance
and it can be attributed to the trust that László Szigeti showed towards him."
Kalligram Könyvkiadó invited young authors to write commentaries for the reissue of the 1999 volume, in a rare way in Hungarian book publishing. Further "we serve you in the expanding circles of our dialogue experiment". (David Szolláth)
