Product description
Zoltán Bálint (1871-1939) and Lajos Jámbor (1869-1955) were one of the most successful architectural couples of the "long turn of the century" from the millennium to the First World War. They worked together for thirty-three and a half years in the Bálint és Jámbor partnership, founded in 1897. Already in the very first years, they received significant orders: as tender winners, they designed - as members of the generation following Ödön Lechner - Pannónia Szálló és Vigádó in Szatmár, considered one of the most beautiful examples of the Hungarian version of Art Nouveau, as well as several elegant villas and city apartment buildings in Budapest. Winning the tender for the historic pavilion of the 1900 World Exhibition in Paris, planning the installation of the seventeen thematic group exhibitions, and then realizing all of this was a resounding success. In the period that followed, together with the building design commissions, they were also given a number of interior design tasks.
One job followed another until the outbreak of the First World War. The culmination of their architectural work is the late Art Nouveau seat of Hajdú county in Debrecen, which suggests strong symbolism. Among their best works is the respectable building of the former Court of Auditors, also bearing the style features of the late Art Nouveau. Apart from the latter, more than twenty buildings of their works have survived in the capital. Based on the plans of the architect couple, several churches and educational institutions were built in historic Hungary from Nagybánya to Budapest to Liptószentmiklós - these buildings still serve religious and educational purposes in accordance with their original purpose.
For the first time, our volume presents the valuable oeuvre of architects Zoltán Bálint and Lajos Jámbor.
