Product description
The XX. The defining event of the last third of the 20th century and influencing the fate of the whole of Central Europe in the long term was the regime change of 1989-90, which brought about major changes in almost all areas of our lives, including the press. How is all this reflected in the work of the newspaper writer and publicist Martin József (1944)? this is what this volume is about, which is a selection of the author's writings over the past quarter of a century. The easiest way to answer the question is that the changes encouraged the former foreign policy journalist to diversify genres and topics. Daily articles, notes, analyses, interviews, and voluminous studies compared to the short articles of daily newspapers can also be called intellectual raiding. Where else could the adventures begin than when the Antall government took office in 1990, and they continue on the tortuous paths of politics. However, the intellectual outings do not stop at current political or economic policy analyses: this is how István Széchenyi and Zoltán Szabó, Jókai, Mikszáth és Móricz, Yehudi Menuhin and Béla Bartók, and many others find their way into the volume. Some of the writings can even tempt the reader to travel, since the author travels from a small hidden village in Miszla in Tolna County, which happens to be the birthplace of the author of the book, to Paris, London, and America, and in the process he remembers his loved ones, dear dead, friends, colleagues who they can no longer be with us. The reader with broad knowledge and open interest will certainly find something to read in this volume. And could there be more joy for the pen-twister?
