Product description
Bisku. The name, which in the period after the 1956 revolution and then during the long decades of the Kádár era became a symbol of terror, retaliation, and cruel showdown. Later, during the attempts to impeach him after the regime change, the shortcomings of the administration of justice, the impunity of the guilty and the lack of remorse came together. How could a gray party functionary of average ability become the emblematic and intimidating politician of his time? How did Béla Biszku become the minister of the interior of retaliation and then "the hardest fist of the soft dictatorship"?
ZSOLT KRAHULCSÁN is the first to undertake to answer these questions. Béla Biszku elaborates on his life and career in meticulous detail: he is not satisfied with outlining a meticulously documented political career, but looks for the politician's personal motivations and possible motives for his decisions along the most important stations and junctions. It presents Biszku in all the political roles of his life, who was connected by countless threads to all the defining politicians, political bodies and organizations of his time, so the volume reveals a contemporary history that goes beyond his personal career: the reader gets a comprehensive picture of the events of the time from a unique, "personal" perspective.
ZSOLT KRAHULCSÁN graduated from the History-Political Science Department of Lajos Kossuth University in Debrecen, and then received a doctorate. Since 2003, he has been a scientific researcher at the Historical Archives of the State Security Services. Founding editor of the Betekintő scientific journal. His area of interest is the history of the political police after the Second World War, the state security agencies of the Kádár era, the formal and informal relationship system of the MSZMP, and the 1956 revolution and subsequent reprisals.
