What is conservatism? General worldview or specific ideology? Natural mentality or political movement? Eternal human or modern phenomenon? Counter-revolutionary, revolutionary or anti-revolutionary perception? Are you a fan of the old order or the current or future system? And what social, moral and political doctrines are associated with his name? These questions are always raised when conservatism is discussed in today's discussions, professional debates and public battles. In addition, these questions are usually accompanied by a lot of misinterpretation and lack of information. Therefore, in order to see these principled questions more clearly, it is first of all essential to get to know the classical representatives of conservatism themselves. This is the purpose of this volume, which is the XIX. and XX. presents portraits of 74 conservative thinkers from the 20th century. Two-thirds of the compilation from the pen of 37 authors contains portraits of foreign thinkers, one-third Hungarian. They review the careers, works, ideas, influence and related literature of the authoritative figures of conservatism. In this way, the volume promotes basic information about conservatism, can serve as a starting point for a comprehensive understanding of the concept, and can be a guide for further study of the movement. The publication can be of interest to the educated general public, the professional community and young people studying at higher education levels.
