Product description
"This volume is about literary alienation, based on personal experiences. These experiences are multifaceted. It includes, in historical order, my emigration in 1956, my career as a university teacher in France, my parallel work as a Hungarian-language fiction writer, and then, from 1990, with a certain degree of new isolation the so-called migrant problems almost never bothered me, I mostly followed my free decisions: I liked being a stranger. I learned that the comments of strangers about me are more than once worth taking to heart, and it is not unworthy of me to sometimes take an unbiased, foreign look at Hungarian phenomena . I was interested in the psychology of foreignness, I was attracted to writers who work in foreign countries, I was obsessed with the problem of alienating naturalization, i.e. translation. The following selection was made from these topics. The title is not a play on words: the Hungarian word really sounds different when spoken from abroad."
"The reader: Don't you feel homesick for Hungary?
The author: I yearn for an ideal Hungary, of course, until death. But if I miss the real Hungary, I'll get on a low-cost plane and travel there."
