Product description
"Upward, he lost his way, he didn't know where he should go, he was moving randomly, always towards the highest point. At one point, pieces of rags were flapping in the wind, maybe it was some fallen equipment.
He climbed onto the rags. They were prayer flags. The featureless stone knoll was covered with flagpoles and indefinable pieces of fabric. He lay down with the whole of Nanga Parbat behind him and the unnaturally blue sky in front of him. From a height of 8,125 meters, it seemed that outer space was at his fingertips."
Zsolt Erőss, the Snow Panther.
His determination, perseverance, and fearlessness were already legendary in his lifetime. Not only was he the first Hungarian to conquer the world's highest peak, Csomolungma, but he continued climbing even after losing one of his legs and reached 8,000-meter peaks with an artificial limb. He was Hungary's most successful mountain climber.
Thanks to his fictional biography, we can accompany him from Transylvania to the Himalayas, from the first rock climbing to the last expedition that ended in tragedy. We can gain an insight into the fascinating world of alpinism, while at the same time the wonderful, exotic regions of Asia, Africa and South America are revealed to us.
However, the book conveys important messages beyond all these. The adventures and life of the renowned alpinist were driven by such wise determination that it can serve as an inspiration for all of us to not be afraid to make our dreams come true.
The author of the biography, András Földes, in addition to being a friend of Zsolt Erőss, is also a mountaineer. She accompanied him on some of his expeditions to show him the inside of this terrifying yet fascinating world. For the new edition of the book published in 2012, Zsolt Erőss's widow, Hilda Sterczer, and András Földes wrote a new foreword.
