The appearance of texts with political content in the early modern age made it possible to evaluate them later and made the depiction of the world of politics understandable and evaluable. In the modern age, the entertainment industry, which serves consumer purposes, invents light music in the form of songs, Hungarian songs and other genres. And the pop culture that emerges with the consumer society is extracting a multitude of musical trends that meet the needs of the age - while all these genres are deeply intertwined with political movements and, if necessary, embedded in the working mechanism of political power.
Among the Hungarian conditions, the present volume is pioneering in nature, because it does not only deal with Hungarian topics, and does not focus only on contemporary music in the narrower sense. In addition to critical assessments of the world of the bygone age, socialism, there are many musical subcultures of the past and present. From the Kádár-era chanson committee to István, the King, from the post-Yugoslav underground to the pop culture of today's China, the writings of the volume examine many amazing phenomena, institutions and trends, which are noted by today's renowned researchers.
