Product description
Almost every year of the last two decades, I spent a month in India researching ancient Hindi literature, and this book is an edited version of my travel diaries written in various forms between 2001 and 2017. I moved equally in the company of poets, researchers, ministers and diplomats, as well as beggars, street children or missionaries working with them. My knowledge of the language enabled me to call the heads of households of tribal origin, auto-rickshaw drivers, former orphans, as well as local writers and scientists my friends. I visited religious communities reminiscent of India centuries ago and performed alongside a Nobel Prize-winning thinker. I tried to discover the country more and more and help preserve its values. I did not study the Indians as an outsider, but tried to learn from them and add my discoveries and my own knowledge to their knowledge. The preservation of values was both a look back at the literature of the past and a presence in today's India. I always kept in mind to record the events faithfully to reality, and to pass on accurate knowledge. The volume is not primarily a description of my research, but of my repeated encounters with India, and almost every event is a marvel at the world.
