The AXAGON CRE-SM4NC is a universal desktop smart card and ID card reader with a USB 2.0 (480 Mbps) interface. It is well suited to reading identity cards on computers and mobile phones with a USB-C port. Thanks to the reversible USB-C connector, the plug can be inserted in either orientation.

The plug-and-play function allows immediate use without installing a driver; only a suitable application is needed to work with the card. The reader is compatible with most national eID applications and supports the common contact smart card formats, including bank cards and electronic identity cards.

It supports the ISO 7816 and EMV 4.1 standards as well as the T=0 and T=1 protocols, and works with Windows, Linux, macOS and Android. The intelligent LED lights up only briefly when activity changes, and the non-slip base keeps the reader steady on the desk. It weighs 74 g.
