The new APU units are not made with 7 nm, but with 12 nm production technology, and they are based on the Picasso chip. Thanks to the ZEN+ architecture, we can expect an IPC increase of around 3% at the same clock speed, i.e. the new products can perform so many more operations compared to members of the Raven Ridge series. Yes, but this is also accompanied by a slight increase in clock speed, which gives the opportunity for further acceleration, as can be seen from the table below. The core clocks have increased by 100 MHz and the maximum Boost clocks by 300 MHz compared to the previous generation in both cases, but the standard VEGA 11 and VEGA 8 iGPUs are also part of the range, which have also been accelerated by 150 MHz. The memory support has not changed, which means that DDR4-2933 MHz memory modules are still needed if we want to drive the iGPU. In this case, the PCI Express controller does not offer 4.0 support, as the chip still relies on the previous generation solution.
It is also important to mention that the new APU units support protected 4K video streams, so for example Netflix's 4K service can also be used with them. This is very good news, since the function was still missing from the previous generation, even though many would have wanted it, since the current APU generation was typically used in compact and cost-effective "all-in-one" systems and powerful HTPC configurations.
