December 1984, Hawkins. Police Chief Jim Hopper's only desire is to spend a quiet Christmas Eve with Tizi, but his adopted daughter pulls through his calculations. The girl pulls out a cardboard box labeled New York from the basement, and the really poignant questions start to rain down. Why did Hopper leave Hawkins? Why did you come back? And why does he never talk about New York? Although Hopper would rather face a Falkánian demogorgon than his own past, he has no choice but to tell the story of those few months that changed everything.
Jim Hopper, a young family man with small children who visited Vietnam, starts a new life in New York, but the alleys of the city that never sleeps are at least as dangerous as the Vietnamese jungle. In the hot summer of 1977, new homicide detective Hopper's precinct is flooded with bizarrely mutilated corpses, and federal agents invade the police station. The man has no choice but to take matters into his own hands.
Pursuing the killer with the utmost determination, Hopper dives deep into the filth of New York, suffering from an unprecedented heat wave, in search of a crazy gang and a mysterious parapsychological experiment, and faces the true face of evil for the first time in the city, which has been plunged into darkness due to a power outage of several days.
