Garlic oil with high allicin content
The onion tuber contains alliin and an enzyme called alliinase. Different compounds are formed from alliin as a result of cell damage - cutting an onion - under the influence of alliinase: allicin, several sulfides, which are responsible for the characteristic smell of this herb. In addition, the following ingredients are also found: sulfur-containing peptide derivatives, vitamins B and C and flavonoids. When buying garlic oil, it is important to know that there are two types of products available on the market. One group includes garlic, typically in powdered or freeze-dried form. This does not have much physiological effect, as the allicin content is very low - in many cases zero. These tablets or capsules are based on the assumption that allicin is produced in the stomach during digestion. Unfortunately, the allinase enzyme is very sensitive to stomach acid. In practice, it breaks down immediately in pH3 or more acidic environments. For this reason, I do not recommend food supplements that do not contain allicin, trusting that the body can produce it after taking the tablet or capsule. They usually do not state the allicin content, but sometimes the "allicin potential", which is 0.6-1%. They indicate that our body synthesizes allicin from the various compounds of garlic powder.
If you buy a dietary supplement so that garlic oil can be included in your diet every day, buy one with the real allicin content listed!!!
