Product description
It is 1929, Italy is ruled by Mussolini and the black shirts with an iron fist. Seventeen-year-old Liliana travels to the jewel of Italy across the sea, the wonderful Tripoli, to live with her brother who fled the fascist regime and his new wife. The young girl comes to the colony with a light heart and high hopes, but she has to be disappointed: instead of fun and flirting in the beautiful landscape, she is greeted by persecution, violence, corruption and oppression. Caught between the conflicting ideals of fascism and Catholicism, the teenager becomes involved in a sinister relationship, which has fatal consequences for both him and his loved ones.
African expert Virginia Baily's story of corrupted innocence, deeply buried traumas and real historical events will stay with us for a long time.
