Product description
Dunapest - Linda, a French woman (in her forties) living in England, misunderstood the name of our capital once. After the death of her Hungarian-born husband, she blindly boards the first plane, which happens to be bound for Budapest. Here he meets a young girl, Juli Tóth (twenties) and two young men (thirties). The girl invites him to her place in the patina apartment building, Pozsonyi út 38-40, which is the main location of the novel. The past and present of the building built in 1938 connect the two threads of the plot.
In 1944, Bratislava's 38th was a starred house, and its integrated 40th is also protected by Switzerland. Historical figures Carl Lutz, the Swiss vice-consul, and Raoul Wallenberg, the secretary of the Swedish embassy, also appear during the novel - these two saved the entire population of a medium-sized town in 1944. Due to the fate of the real residents of the house (Lajos Hatvany, Ernő Szép, Jenő Heltai) or its imaginary owners, the snake of fiction and non-fiction is inextricably intertwined in Miklós Vámos's latest book - making the past present.
