Violette is a cemetery caretaker in a small French town. Her husband disappeared from her life nineteen years ago, but she did not look for him, since they had not had anything to say to each other for a long time. Every day the man hopped on his motorcycle and came home grumpy and smelling of strange women - if he came home at all.

He has a word of understanding for everyone, and he is friendly to the three gravediggers of the cemetery. One day, she is approached by a detective who, fulfilling her mother's will, came to place the woman's urn next to the resting place of a man unknown to her. A strange relationship develops between them, and we slowly get to know not only the special love of the detective's mother, but also the story of Violette, her husband and their little daughter.
